New Century Style

Our style is a unique blend of classic mid-century lines, modern design sensibilities and amenities, along with the natural live edge forms and characteristics from each individual tree milled, helping to highlight the beauty of the wood itself. Rather than reducing wood to a generic medium that will be monotonous and predictable each time, we lean the other way in to truly bespoke production and creation, resulting in our unique New Century style.

With a focus on the natural curves, colors, and characteristics of each individual tree and wood species, we are able to highlight the transition of nature into functional artwork, and every piece we produce will be unique in its own right, as no two trees are ever identical. We offer a variety of design elements within our collections and commissioned pieces, with the ability to fuse live edges with resin or high character dimensional lumber. Because of our focus on accentuating the individual colors and characteristics of every unique piece of wood, we generally counsel against using stains of any color or kind, and instead finish our pieces with a hand rubbed natural hardwax oil finish. Our philosophy is to simply use lighter color wood species when you want lighter end results, or naturally darker colored wood species when you want darker end results. More details on our finishing options and process can be found here.

Solid Wood Construction

Unlike most woodworkers or stores you will come across, we do not use MDF, plywood, or other engineered wood in our pieces. Whether big manufacturers or individual high end makers, there is a tendency with about 99% of other woodworkers who make pieces out of hardwood to often use plywood or laminates to build internal components (such as dividers, box bottoms, cabinet backs, etc.), because of the cost savings. We do not use any of these, because while they may look similar, over time they will simply not hold up as well as hardwood does. If we are building heirloom quality functional artwork designed to last a lifetime and beyond, we are not interested in cutting corners to save money here or there. The costs of using hardwood only may add up substantially in some cases, but we feel that it is worth it in the long run, and most of our clients do as well.
